Corona Journey No. 32 - The Long Road South

It's quickly becoming one of our strongest traditions: a group of best friends scattered around the world, each pursuing their own individual dreams, reuniting once a year for an adventure. Each year's mission: to chase waves, spend quality time together, and relive memories from our younger days. A spectacular trip to kick off the new year usually ticks all the boxes. While we've gathered in amazing places abroad in the past, the lure of our home, New Zealand's South Island, was irresistible.

The timing was perfect. Our newly built truck and Scott's newly imported Chevy van from the US were waiting for their first trip. We loaded up the car with camping gear, 11 surfboards, and two Feldon rooftop tents strapped to the roof. The rooftop tents and the back of Scott's van would provide accommodation for the next month. We had plenty of space, surfboards, and supplies for our six reunited buddies to pursue their adventure.

With no time to waste, we drove across the North Island and caught the first ferry across Cook Strait. We spent the night catching up on stories from the past year. As soon as the ferry docked and our tyres touched the soil of the South Island, we were off again. Sleep-deprived and hungry for waves.
